Rivers State Police Command has rescued a kidnapped victim who was shot thrice by his abductors when he was attacked on December 19, 2023.
State Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, while briefing newsmen at Police the Headquarters, Moscow Road, Port Harcourt today, said the victim kidnapped was a popular hotelier who was shot three times before he was abducted.
Disu said a total sum of N25 million was paid to kidnappers by the family of the victim, but the suspects refused to release him, reports Daily Sun.
The Rivers Police boss disclosed that, at that point, the family informed the C41 intelligence unit of the Force.
He stated that officers of the command had encounter with the kidnappers towards end of December, but they escaped.
He disclosed the kidnappers also took the vehicle belonging to the victim to panel beater to change the colour of the vehicle.
Disu explained that on January 9, officers of the command went to Agbonchia forest in Eleme Local Government Area, Rivers State, where the victim was rescued and one of the kidnappers injured during gunfire with the police was arrested.
Items recovered from the suspects included Lexus RX350 and 330, as well as an AK 47 rifles.
According to the police commissioner, the kidnappers collected the ransom in food flask.
He assured that the Police were trailing other members of the gang with a view to arresting them.
The CP also revealed that the injured kidnapper as well as the kidnap victim were receiving treatment in the hospital.
The victim whose name was withheld for security reasons told journalists in the hospital that he saw hell while in the kidnappers’ den.
He, however, thanked the Police for their efforts in rescuing him.
