Kidnappings: Monster of insecurity will consume us all — Peter Obi

The FrontierThe FrontierDecember 26, 2024 2821 Minutes read0

•Peter Obi

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections, Mr. Peter Obi, warned today that insecurity in the country could consume everyone if more efforts were not made to address it.

While acknowledging the sacrifices made by security agencies in the fight against insecurity, especially kidnapping, Obi noted that the growing threats indicated that more strategies needed to be deployed, reports Nigerian Tribune.

Obi was reacting to the latest kidnapping cases, particularly in his home state of Anambra, where several victims, including a member of the State House of Assembly, had been abducted within the last 24 to 48 hours.

In one of the incidents, Hon. Justice Azuka, the member representing Onitsha-North Constituency at the Anambra State House of Assembly, was kidnapped in Onitsha, the most visible commercial city in the state.

Obi, a former governor of the state, took to his X handle to comment on the development.

“The honorable member was just arriving in Onitsha to celebrate the Christmas season with his family when the assailants struck.

“As I have always continued to warn, if left unchecked, the monster of insecurity will consume all of us. These merchants of terror are becoming emboldened in their criminal acts, and if not stopped, no one will be spared.

“I sincerely appreciate everyone on the frontline working to ensure the security of lives and property in Nigeria.

“We must now, however, make more efforts and sacrifices to conquer this monster of insecurity,” Obi wrote today.

In another incident in the state, kidnappers were said to have abducted all passengers in three private cars on Christmas Day in Awka, the state capital.

The victims were also visiting for Christmas when they were kidnapped along Isu Road in the city.

Obi appealed for the rescue of Azuka, urging security agencies to ensure his safe return to his family, in addition to arresting and punishing the perpetrators of the attacks.
