Kwara govt seals unregistered extra-mural coaching centres, cyber cafés

•Kwara State governor, AbdulRaman AbdulRazaq

The Kwara State Government has sealed several extra-mural coaching centres and cyber cafés across the state for failing to register and renew their operational permits, in violation of existing regulations.

In a statement issued today by Anigilaje Rasheedat, Press Secretary of the Kwara State Agency for Mass Education, the affected centres were described as “operating illegally without meeting the State’s stipulated guidelines.”

The Executive Director of the Agency for Mass Education, Yusuf Saka, represented by the Agency’s Desk Officer for Continuing Education, Mr. Adedare Olusegun, and Mrs. Komolafe Atinuke, disclosed this during an enforcement exercise carried out in collaboration with the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service enforcement team, reports The PUNCH.

Yusuf said, “The government had earlier instructed all such centres to register and obtain the necessary permits. However, some failed to comply, prompting the enforcement measures to ensure adherence to the State’s regulations.”

Some of the affected centres include, Upward Success Academy (Offa Garage), Samis Educational Institute (Olunlade), Best Hand Coaching Centre (Odota), Leadership Seekers Educational Services (Asa Dam), Holla Success Computer Services (Sawmill Area), Dynamic Coaching Centre (Tanke), SoftRays Computer Institute (Tanke) and Cisse Edu Services, among others.

Yusuf warned that “the affected centres will remain closed until they fulfil all the requirements and pay outstanding dues,” adding that “any unapproved centre found operating in defiance of the government’s regulations will face the full wrath of the law.”

He further emphasised that the move was aimed at “regulating the activities of coaching and learning centres to ensure they operate legally and transparently.”

Yusuf urged proprietors of the affected centres to “cooperate with the government in its efforts to boost the State’s revenue and improve educational standards.”

However, several centres failed to comply, leading to the clampdown.

Some of the affected centres include, Upward Success Academy (Offa Garage), Samis Educational Institute (Olunlade), Best Hand Coaching Centre (Odota), Leadership Seekers Educational Services (Asa Dam), Holla Success Computer Services (Sawmill Area), Dynamic Coaching Centre (Tanke), SoftRays Computer Institute (Tanke) and Cisse Edu Services, among others.

Yusuf stressed that the centres would remain closed until all outstanding dues are paid and the necessary requirements fulfilled.

He warned that any centre found operating without approval would face strict penalties.

He added that the exercise was part of the government’s effort to ensure that learning centres operate legally and transparently.

He also encouraged owners of affected centres to work with the government to improve educational standards and contribute to state revenue.
