Labourer kills employer after stealing kolanuts

The FrontierThe FrontierApril 1, 2025 2751 Minutes read0

A 60-year old woman Mrs. Adelugba has been allegedly killed by a yet-to-identified labourer she hired to work in her Kolanut farm.

Adelugba was found dead and body covered with leaves and palm fronds at Laje Camp in Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State, reports The Nation.

It was gathered it was the labourer that led villagers to where he dumped the body after he confessed to the crime.

Sources said the labourer claimed the ghost of the deceased pressured him to confess.

It was learnt that the deceased recently hired the suspect to work in one of her farms.

She was said to have recently caught the suspect stealing her kolanuts but he begged her not to expose him to avoid him being banished from the village.

A source said she accepted for the suspect to pay for what he has stolen or deducted the money from his salary.

The source said the suspect killed the woman last Saturday and fled the village.

According to the source: “On Sunday, the suspect began to confess to his crime. He said the deceased pressured him to own up to the theft. It was he who eventually led villagers to the scene, where they recovered Mrs. Adelugba’s corpse and took it to the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital (UNIMEDTH) mortuary.”

Police sources said the suspect has been transferred to the State Intelligence Bureau (SIB) in Akure for further investigation.

Ondo Police spokesman, Funmilayo Odunlami, could not be reached for comments.
