Lagos college hosts maiden conference on AI

The FrontierThe FrontierAugust 20, 2025 831 Minutes read0

College of Vocational and Entrepreneurship Education in Lagos State University of Education, Oto/Ijanikin, has hosted its First Annual National Conference, with the theme: “Leveraging Artificial Intelligence in Vocational and Entrepreneurship Education for Sustainable Development.”

The event, from August 12–15, at LASUED’s Odo Noforija Campus, Epe, brought together academics, policymakers, researchers, entrepreneurs, and students to explore how AI can reshape vocational and entrepreneurship education, reports The Nation.

In a communique by Dr Adeyemi Patrick, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Bidemi Lafiaji-Okuneye, represented by Prof. Olumuyiwa Viatonu, described the theme as a “call for action”.

Speaker, past Registrar of Teachers Registration Council, Prof. Josiah Ajiboye, said while technology will not replace teachers, “teachers who fail to embrace technology will be replaced.”

He identified inadequate infrastructure, digital literacy gaps, and ethical concerns, recommending an AI policy, improved digital infrastructure, training, inclusive access, and partnerships.

The Acting Dean of COVED and host of the conference, Dr. Beatrice Oganah-Ikujenyo, thanked the vice chancellor for her visionary leadership, which led to 100 percent accreditation for 64 programmes.

She also praised members of the Local Organising Committee led by Dr. Adeola Kiadese Lukmon for their dedication.

She reaffirmed that AI holds vast potential to revolutionise vocational and entrepreneurship education, bridge Nigeria’s skills gap, and empower youths for a digital future.
