In a bid to improve safety and sanity among the motoring public operating on Lagos roads, the State Government, through Lagos State Driver’s Institute (LASDRI) has recognised and awarded thirty(30) professional drivers for safety compliance and exemplary conduct.

Speaking at the Year 2024 Drivers Recognition and Award Ceremony held at LASDRI’S headquarters in Oshodi with the theme “Driver Education: A Strategy for Human Capital Development in a 21st Century Economy,” the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, Mr. Olawale Musa, stated that the ceremony provides an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate drivers for their exemplary professionalism.

He commended the drivers for their perseverance in long hours on the road enduring harsh weather conditions, managing the numerous challenges and ensuring safe arrivals at destinations.

The permanent secretary stressed that driving is a complex task that requires a high level of physical, cognitive and behavioral skills and responses, noting that recognising and rewarding exceptional individuals is more than just a nod of thanks but a crucial reminder of the indispensable role drivers play in keeping the nation moving.

Earlier, the General Manager LASDRI, Mrs Tiamiyu Afusat stated that the award is in recognition of hard work, perseverance and pride that every driver brings to their job and also the commitment they demonstrate to making the road safer for other road users.

Mrs. Tiamiyu emphasised that driving is not just a job but also a skill, an art, and a responsibility. She further highlighted qualities of professional drivers on display as they navigate the intricate network of roads, ensuring that people and goods reach their destinations safely.

Also speaking, the General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Mr. Olalekan Bakare Oki, urged drivers to always prioritize safety while on the road.

Mr. Oki encouraged the award recipients to renew their commitment to promoting a culture of safety, responsibility, and continuous learning.

He noted that LASDRI remains dedicated to providing top-notch training, resources, and support to ensure that drivers are not only skilled but also equipped to navigate the ever-changing landscape. He further emphasised government commitment to safe and healthy environment.

The event attracted drivers from government and corporate organisations, transport unions, amongst others.
