LG Council pays Islamic scholars N4 million monthly to pray against terrorism

Musawa Local Government Area of Katsina State has engaged the services of 75 Islamic scholars to seek divine intervention towards ending terrorism and related ills in the area and state as a whole.

The Executive Chairman of the area, Dr Habib Abdulkadir, made this known in an interview with newsmen.

The council area is amongst several others faced with recurring security challenges brought about by activities of bandits, terrorists, kidnappers, and rustlers, reports The Guardian.

Hundreds of people have lost their lives, while thousands have been abducted for ransom in the security-prone councils.

In addition to Musawa, other councils facing the challenge include Matazau, Jibia, Safana, Batsari, Batagrawa, Faskari, Kankara, Malumfashi, Funtua, Bakori, among others.

While the security situation had abated in some parts of the state, communities close to forest reserve areas have continued to experience attacks weekly.

Abdulkadir said the Islamic scholars were selected from different religious sects, and would continue to make supplications for a lasting end to the security challenge facing the council and state.

He said the government pays more than N4 million monthly to sponsor the prayers, and as an allowance to the Islamic scholars.

He said with the prayers, peace was gradually returning to some of the communities affected by insecurity in the area, adding, “many people can now sleep with their eyes closed.”

The chairman commended the federal and state government efforts in the fight against terrorists in the area, even as he assured of the council’s unwavering support to ensure security in the area.
