LG elections: APC sweeps all chairmanship positions in Nasarawa, Cross River

The FrontierThe FrontierNovember 4, 2024 3741 Minutes read0

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won all the chairmanship positions in the local government elections conducted in Nasarawa State and Cross River State on Saturday.

In Nasarawa, the ruling party was declared winner of the chairmanship poll in all the 13 local governments of the state, reports Channels TV.

The chairman of the Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC), Ayuba Wandai, declared the results at the headquarters of the electoral commission in Lafia.

According to him, for the 147 councillorship seats, the APC won in 140 wards, while the Social Democratic Party (SDP) won in 5 wards and the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) in 2 wards.

In Cross River, however, the APC emerged victorious in all the 18 local government chairmanship positions and 196 councillorship seats.

The results were officially announced yesterday at the State Independent Electoral Commission (CROSIEC) by the chairman, Ekong Bocco.

Immediately after the announcement, all the elected chairmen made up of 3 women and 15 men, were presented with certificates of return.

While congratulating all the winners, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Honourable Emmanuel Ironbar, highlighted the crucial tasks awaiting the newly elected officials, which includes addressing the needs of their constituents, promoting transparency, and fulfilling their electoral commitments in line with the People First Mantra championed by the State Governor, Bassey Edet Otu.
