Libya ordeal: We’ve already submitted documents to CAF’s Disciplinary Committee – NFF

The FrontierThe FrontierOctober 19, 2024 2381 Minutes read0

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) says it has already submitted to the Disciplinary Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), all the relevant documents needed to prosecute its case against the Libya Football Federation (LFF).

It would be recalled that the NFF, on Monday pulled the Super Eagles out of the return leg of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match against Libya following the sudden and ‘forceful’ diversion of the plane that was conveying the Nigerian delegation to Al Abraq Airport instead of Benghazi, where they were originally headed, and the subsequent detention of the visitors at the same airport for close to 20 hours without food and water.

Due to the tensed atmosphere that ensued, the Federal Government of Nigeria directed the NFF to withdraw the Super Eagles from the match to avoid any unforeseen danger, reports Daily Trust.

However, even before the decision to boycott the match was taken, the NFF had filed a protest to CAF, demanding justice from the continental football governing body.

First, CAF responded by stating categorically that the treatment meted to the Nigerian delegation was not only despicable but totally unacceptable. It followed up with the directive that both countries should submit latest October 20, the relevant documents, explaining in details the circumstances that led to the cancellation of the October 15 AFCON qualifying match

When our correspondent contacted a top official of the NFF yesterday, he said, “We have already submitted all the relevant documents for the attention of the disciplinary committee.

“Even before we returned to Nigeria, we were ready with everything needed to prosecute our case against Libya. So, we have done what is expected of us.

“Right now, we are only waiting for the verdict,” he said.

When asked to throw more light on the pleas of the NFF to CAF, he simply said, “No need to go into details, let’s wait and see the outcome.”
