Meet Marie Khone and Absa, Senegal President Faye’s wives •PHOTOS

•President Faye and wives

Bassirou Diomaye Faye was inaugurated as the fifth Senegal President yesterday, Tuesday, April 2, 2024, flaunting his two wives – Marie Khone and Absa.

Faye was sworn in, in Diamniadio near Dakar, the capital, having defeated main rival and ruling party coalition candidate Amadou Ba and winning the delayed election with over 54% of the vote, reports Vanguard.

In an unusual scene, the 44-year-old glamorously appeared before the people with his two wives, making an unprecedented sight in the national politics of the West African country.

Polygamy is a traditional and religious practice firmly anchored in the culture of Senegal where the overwhelming majority is Muslim, and Faye was proud to flaunt his practice.

Marie Khone, who until now had never been in the spotlight, hails from the same village with his barrister and tax inspector husband. They married 15 years ago and have four children – three boys and a girl. They got married in 2009.

Faye married his second wife Absa just over a year ago.

Marie Khone

Marie Khone is the first wife who played a pivotal role in Faye’s political journey and emerged as a key figure in the Senegalese community. Although she had not held an official political title, Marie Khone Faye commanded immense influence and garnered widespread respect.

As a celebrated staunch advocate for women’s rights, the 34-year-old Marie Khone Faye has championed initiatives to boost education and healthcare accessibility in Senegal. Her lasting legacy is a source of inspiration and empowerment for women within Senegal and beyond its borders.

Having gained the position of the Senegal First Lady, it is widely believed that she will continue to use her resources and influence to enhance the lives of women, even with her husband bringing a radical change.

Absa

Absa Faye is Faye’s second wife with little information to the public. The 31-year-old got married to Faye in 2023 and, hence, has not had any children with the Senegalese leader.

One of the fascinating about Absa is maintaining a private life, and keeping much of her activities away from the public eye.

Absa was raised by her parents, whose identities remain undisclosed in media records. She has chosen not to disclose information about her educational background or any potential siblings.
