National Convention: PDP expels Wike, Fayose, Anyanwu, others

The FrontierThe FrontierNovember 15, 2025 1723 Minutes read0

•Expelled Wike, Fayose and Anyanwu

The Peoples Democratic Party at its ongoing 2025 National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, today expelled high-profile members including Federal Capital Minister, Nyesom Wike, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN), former Governor Ayo Fayose, Austin Nwachukwu, and several others for anti-party activities.

The action was “promptly ratified by an overwhelming majority of delegates,” highlighting the party’s “commitment to restoring unity, discipline, and focus ahead of the 2027 general elections,” reports Saturday PUNCH.

This is according to the official statement released by @OfficialPDPNig across its social media handles, which read, “In a landmark move to restore unity, discipline, and focus ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at its ongoing 2025 National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, has expelled high-profile members Nyesom Wike, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN), former Governor Ayo Fayose, Austin Nwachukwu, and several others.”

The statement added: “The decision, which was promptly ratified by an overwhelming majority of delegates, underscores the party’s commitment to eradicating internal divisions and anti-party conduct that have plagued its progress.”

Additional reports revealed that party chieftain, Chief Olabode George, who was also a former national vice-chairman of the party (south), moved the motion for the expulsion, while Samaila Buga, chairman of the PDP in Bauchi, seconded his motion.

Bala Mohammed, governor of Bauchi and chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, put it to a voice vote.

Wike’s aide reacts

None of the expelled members have made any official remarks on the development.

Late into the night, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, Wike, Lere Olayinka, reacted to his principal’s expulsion with a subtle jibe.

On his official X account, he described the ongoing PDP convention as a social event.

He wrote, “They went to Ibadan to start dirty December in November. When people decided to start their own dirty December in November, one can’t but ignore whatever comes out of their mouths.

“They gathered in Ibadan to do social party, enjoyed themselves and got intoxicated, they are free to say anything.”

Wike, Fayose, Anyanwu’s PDP recent chronicles

In June 2025, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory insisted that he never played anti-party politics, despite his support for President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 general elections.

PDP, later on, through its Deputy National Legal Adviser, Mr Okechukwu Osuoha, in September, stated that Wike could not be sanctioned for alleged anti-party activities unless a formal petition is submitted with supporting evidence.

Meanwhile, in Tuesday’s remarks, Fayose said that the PDP is “in a state of comatose,” insisting that the opposition party is grappling with an internal crisis that may be beyond recovery.

He stated this while speaking as a guest on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television.

In October, the former Ekiti State governor exonerated Tinubu from the mounting crisis within the PDP, stating that the party’s troubles are entirely self-inflicted.

He had in fact declared the PDP as “dead,” saying he would not be part of any effort to revive it, even as he hinted that more defections from the opposition party are imminent.

In November 2024, the PDP crisis continued to linger post 2023 general election, as a faction of the PDP NWC suspended the acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, and National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, for alleged disloyalty to the party.

Earlier, a faction of the NWC aligned with Damagum announced the suspension of the National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade, and the National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, for alleged disloyalty to the party.

On November 1, 2025, PDP NWC again suspended the National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN); National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu; Deputy Legal Adviser, Okechukwu Osuoha; and National Organising Secretary, Umaru Bature, for one month following a court ruling that halted the party’s 2025 national convention.
