Native doctor with automatic pump-action guns in Police net

The FrontierThe FrontierJune 24, 2025 1941 Minutes read0

Operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cybercrime Squad, attached to the Delta State Police Command, have arrested a 47-year-old native doctor, Okonji Chimeze, in connection with two automatic pump-action guns and one cutlass.

The police spokesperson, Bright Edafe, confirmed the arrest to our correspondent in Asaba today, reports The Guardian.

Edafe stated that the arrest was made when the police, acting on credible intelligence, stormed the suspect’s Ibuza residence on June 14, 2025, at approximately 0630 hours.

“A search Warrant was executed in the premises of the suspect during which two automatic pump-action guns and one cutlass were recovered hidden inside the ceiling of the suspect’s room,” he said.

According to him, the suspect and exhibits are in police custody till the investigation is concluded.

Additionally, the spokesperson stated that the Eagle-Net Surveillance Team, stationed at Ughelli North LGA, while on routine stop-and-search duty along Otokutu Bridge, Warri, intercepted a black Toyota Corolla car with registration number RSH 90 RC.

He stated that the car was driven by one Telvin Richmond (male), aged 27 years, of Opete by Otokutu, along with one Frank Obiorah (male), aged 26 years, of the same address.

“The vehicle and the suspects were subjected to a thorough search of the car; a locally made cut-to-size gun, two yellow hand-bands inscribed with NBM ‘neo black movement’, one battle axe and a wooden pistol, all concealed inside the compartment of the vehicle doors.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects are members of the Aiye confraternity,” he said, adding that they bought the gun in the year 2024 for the sum of N87,000 from another suspect presently at large.
