The Federal Government of Nigeria has congratulated the new government of Hungary following the inauguration of Péter Magyar as Prime Minister.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, conveyed warm congratulations to Magyar after his swearing-in ceremony held at the Hungarian Parliament in Budapest on May 9, 2026, reports Daily Independent.
The minister in a In a statement issued yesterday by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, spokesperson of the ministry, said Nigeria also congratulated the Tisza Party on its victory in the parliamentary elections conducted on April 12, 2026, and extended best wishes to the newly formed government as it begins its mandate.
According to the statement, Nigeria views the political transition as a significant development in Hungary’s democratic journey and a reflection of the importance of democratic participation, constitutional governance, and peaceful political transition in strengthening national institutions and public confidence.
The Nigerian government noted that both countries have maintained cordial diplomatic relations over the years, built on mutual respect, constructive engagement, and shared commitment to international cooperation.
It added that bilateral ties between Nigeria and Hungary have continued to expand in critical sectors including education, agriculture, trade and investment, science and technology, energy cooperation, and capacity development.
The statement particularly acknowledged Hungary’s scholarship and educational exchange programmes, describing them as valuable initiatives that have strengthened people-to-people relations between both countries.
Nigeria also welcomed Prime Minister Magyar’s commitment to deepening Hungary’s engagement within Europe while promoting democratic governance, regional stability, and economic growth.
The federal government reaffirmed its readiness to work closely with the new Hungarian administration to strengthen bilateral cooperation and advance shared interests within multilateral institutions, including the United Nations and other global platforms.
