Nigerian entertainers slam bandit attacks on Kwara church, Kebbi school; demand immediate action by govt

•Mr Macaroni and Falz

Prominent Nigerian celebrities have taken to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to condemn the Church attack in Kwara and the school attack in Kebbi states.

They also demanded that the government take action to stop these attacks, reports The PUNCH.

The latest round of public outcry follows reports of a terrorist attack on a church in Kwara State.

The Kwara State Police Command confirmed yesterday that suspected bandits killed at least two people and injured one during attacks in Eruku, a boundary town in the Ekiti Local Government Area.

A parish of the Christ Apostolic Church was invaded during the service, with a disturbing livestream video of the incident trending online.

The reported pre-dawn attack on the Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, which led to the abduction of 25 students and killing a staff member, also fueled the tension.

Taking to X today, comedian and actor Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY, questioned Nigeria’s leadership capacity, writing, “Nigeria is turning into a crime scene. Bandits storm churches to kill and abduct Christians. Children are kidnapped from schools. A Brigadier General is shot dead. Every day brings fresh chaos.

“How did we get here? And must outsiders come to fix what our leaders refuse to confront? Which way, Nigeria? We need safety, accountability and real action, not silence.”

Similarly, rapper and actor Folarin Falana, aka Falz, in an X post today asked President Bola Tinubu to stop the insecurity.

“How many more people have to be kidnapped and murdered in cold blood?” Falz asked.

Popular skit maker Debo Adedayo, also known as Mr Macaroni also lamented the insecurity.

Mr Macaroni wrote today, “Nigerians are waking up to yet another terrorist attack on a church in Kwara State. These terrorist attacks concern all of us! Please don’t think it doesn’t affect you. Whether it happens in the North, South, East or West, it affects all of us! We cannot keep quiet while Nigerians are being slaughtered in different parts of the country! This is madness!

“It is abominable that school children have been abducted, general and other security agents murdered in cold blood by terrorists, and the president hasn’t addressed the nation to inform Nigerians of necessary actions being taken.” He wrote earlier yesterday.

Actress Funke Akindele expressed distress over the recent Kwara church incident, focusing on the vulnerability of the victims as seen in a viral video.

“Woke up to see a livestream video of people being attacked inside a church in Kwara. This is sad and disturbing. I wept seeing that old woman who couldn’t walk well running for safety. They are harmless citizens, for God’s sake! I’m so weak,” she wrote.

“That livestream put it into reality for so many of us. The reality is that it can happen to anyone. I am not special. You’re not special. Very heartbreaking to watch,” social media influencer Enioluwa Adeoluwa wrote.

Actress Kate Henshaw blamed the current state of affairs squarely on leadership rather than the country itself.

In a post today, Henshaw wrote, “There is nothing wrong with the Nigerian land; we are blessed with immense natural resources. There is everything wrong with those saddled with the responsibility of ‘leading’ & making sure lives & property are safe. Our children are an endangered species.”

Nigerian health influencer and medical doctor, Chinonso Egemba, aka Aproko Doctor, in a separate post, condemned the continuous loss of life as a direct failure of governance.

“This is terrorism, and it cannot continue! Human lives are being sacrificed as a result of the government’s not being able to protect its people! This is a travesty! NigeriaGov, protect your citizens. We have a right to live!” He wrote.
