The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has temporarily put on hold the Warri–Itakpe Train Service (WITS).
A statement by the Corporation yesterday noted that the suspension was due to operational exigencies and technical advice from its Engineers.
“The temporary suspension has become necessary to enable the Corporation to carry out critical operational assessments aimed at ensuring continued safety, reliability, and improved service delivery on the corridor.
“The NRC regrets the inconvenience this development may cause passengers and other stakeholders, and assures the public that efforts are currently ongoing to resolve the issues within the shortest possible time.
“Passengers and intending travellers will be duly informed before the end of the week on the date for the resumption of normal train operations”, the statement said, reinstating its commitment to safe, efficient, and customer-friendly rail services across the country.
The development comes as the Commission announced a 50% fare reduction in its train services during the Sallah celebration.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Transportation, Funsho Adebiyi.
According to the ministry, the fare reduction is part of efforts by the federal government to ease transportation costs for Nigerians travelling during the festive period.
