Nigerian singer Simi: NAPTIP begins probe into Lagos daycare abuse allegations

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has ordered an investigation into allegations of child abuse at a daycare centre in Lagos.

NAPTIP Director-General, Binta Adamu Bello, directed operatives to begin an immediate inquiry after fallout continues over resurfaced social media posts allegedly linked to Nigerian singer, Simisola Kosoko, popularly known as Simi, reports Saturday Guardian.

In a statement shared on X yesterday, the agency said the decision followed growing public concern over the disturbing claims circulating online, which were linked to the singer.

The statement read, “Director General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Binta Adamu Bello, OON, has directed Operatives of the Agency to commence a full-scale investigation into the alleged Child Molestation and Abuse in a Day-care setting in Lagos, as deduced from the suggestive online post by a popular Nigeria singer.

“While appreciating the genuine concern of Nigerians on the matter, the Agency wishes to inform the general public that all its communication platforms are active and available to take complaints from anyone who may have been abused or violated on the said Day-care.”

The agency reiterated its commitment to protecting children and called on members of the public to assist with credible information.

It added, “NAPTIP has launched a full investigation into allegations of child abuse at a Lagos daycare facility.

“Anyone with useful information is urged to come forward and report through our official channels. Child protection remains our priority,”

The federal agency’s action follows an earlier move by the Lagos State Government.

The Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, Lola Vivour-Adeniyi, disclosed during a Channels Television programme that the matter had been forwarded to the Commissioner of Police for preliminary investigation.

The controversy erupted after screenshots of tweets allegedly written by Simi resurfaced online following her remarks against sexual violence, including advocating castration for rapists and saying many women she knows have been assaulted.

Critics subsequently circulated the old posts from 2012 and 2013, claiming they suggested inappropriate conduct in a daycare environment.

Simi has since reacted to the allegations, stating that the resurfaced comments were misunderstood and had no connection to any wrongdoing.
