Nigerian syndicate allegedly lures popular Indian actor into drug trafficking

•Indian actor Vishal Brahma

Nigeria’s drug lords in India have been linked to the recent arrest of Indian actor Vishal Brahma, by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) at Chennai over drug trafficking.

According to a report by India Today, Vishal Brahma was intercepted by authorities while returning to Chennai from Singapore on flight AI 347.

He was found in possession of contraband and is believed to have been recruited by a Nigerian drug syndicate.

The report indicates that the 32-year-old Brahma, reportedly in need of money, was allegedly lured into travelling to Cambodia for a holiday. Upon his return, he was instructed to carry a trolley bag containing drugs.

Authorities are currently investigating the Nigerian gang involved in this operation.

In August 2024, Brahma publicly accused the makers of Bihu Attack of not paying him. He claimed he spent an entire month on set at his own expense and had difficulty getting a response from the production team for two months.

The investigation into Vishal Brahma’s alleged involvement is expected to broaden as authorities work to apprehend the Nigerian gang behind the drug operation.

Drug trafficking involving Nigerians in India is being reported at an alarming rate, with many sentenced to life imprisonment in the Asian nation.
