PDP afraid of Labour Party in Oluyole LG, Oyo State — Party excos

The FrontierThe FrontierJanuary 28, 2025 2312 Minutes read0

The leadership of the Labour Party (LP) in Oluyole Local Government of Oyo State has said it lost no valuable member following the defection of one of its former members, Abdullahi Okedeji.

This was contained in a statement jointly signed by the party’s Oluyole Local Government chairman, Alhaji Abdulrahman Moronkeji, and other executives of the party, including Secretary Mr Peter Olawole, Woman Leader Mrs Beauty Okobi, Youth Leader Jeje Ibukun, and Public Relations Officer Adedayo Abdulwahab Arowolo, reports Nigerian Tribune.

“Recently, an erstwhile member of our party, one Abdullahi Okedeji a.k.a. Better Life, in cohort with some PDP leaders, notably Oluyole Local Government chairman, Engr Akeem Olatunji, organised a decampment to PDP in his honour.

“At the said event, Abdullahi Okedeji said that he has moved a big part of the Labour Party structure into the PDP in Oluyole LG.

“To set the record straight, Abdullahi Okedeji has ceased to be a member of the Labour Party since October 2024. He has not been participating in the activities of the party months before his decision to cease to be a member of the party.

“It should be noted that those presented as LP members for the decampment were a hired crowd with the exception of three persons. And those three persons are personal friends of Abdullahi Okedeji that joined LP with him over 12 months ago.

“It was difficult for Abdullahi Okedeji to convince any of the party members, including our councillorship candidates in the last local government elections, to follow him back to PDP. “This was because his political ideology of ‘chop make I chop’ did not situate well with the lofty ideal of the Labour Party and its members.

“It should be noted that Abdullahi Okedeji aka Better Life is one of the spies planted by PDP Oluyole in the Labour Party Oluyole. He came from PDP to join the party so as to contest chairmanship in the last local government elections, but we saw through his plan and refused to give him the ticket. Rather, we made him the vice chairmanship candidate. After the last local government selection called the election, he has since gone back to his paymaster.

“The fear of the Labour Party in Oluyole Local Government is the beginning of wisdom for PDP. Even though the PDP is in government in Oluyole, they are still acting in opposition because of the dominance of the Labour Party.

The people of Oluyole Local Government have seen through their contract with the PDP and we have been assured that the Labour Party manifesto for the people of Oluyole is resonating with them. Our membership is swelling every day because of it.

“Labour Party members and executives in Oluyole Local Government remain steadfast with the party and its ideal of good governance for the good of the citizens. We are all happy within the party and getting stronger day by day in readiness for the 2027 polls.”
