Police probe two corpses found in Lagos canal

The FrontierThe FrontierSeptember 11, 2025 1091 Minutes read0

The Lagos State Police Command has opened an investigation into the mysterious death of two young men whose bodies were discovered in a canal along the LASU-Igando Road in the Iba area of the state.

It was gathered that the corpses, found in the early hours of Tuesday, had their hands tied behind their back, with blue trash bags knotted tightly around their necks, reports The PUNCH.

This is fuelling suspicion that they might have been tortured and suffocated before being dumped.

However, a lawyer who resides in the area but pleaded anonymity because of the sensitivity of the case, said the killings appeared ritualistic.

“I was passing the place yesterday (Tuesday) when I saw some residents gathered at the bridge. The bodies were so clean. It is obvious that they were killed somewhere else and dumped.

“It looks as if they were also tortured because their hands were tied behind them and trash bags were tight around their necks,” the resident told our correspondent.

The gruesome discovery comes at a time when the state is grappling with a wave of cult-related violence despite mass arrests and the redeployment of divisional police officers across the state.

When contacted yesterday, the Deputy Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police Command, Babaseyi Oluseyi, confirmed that the bodies had been recovered.

“The bodies have since been evacuated to the Mainland General Hospital Mortuary for autopsy.

“The Lagos State Police Command has commenced investigations to establish the identity of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding their death,” he said.

Last week, five more bodies were recovered along a riverbank in the Oreta community, Igbogbo area of Ikorodu.

The command later linked the deaths to cult clashes.
