Quest for secure Nigeria: The Patriots to formally unveil committee for the proposed national summit

The FrontierThe FrontierApril 30, 2025 2952 Minutes read0

•Chief Emeka Anyaoku

Elderstatesman and former Secretary General of the Commonwealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, will tomorrow, Thursday, May 1 (May Day) 2025 in Lagos, unveil a high level Convening Committee to coordinate proposed National Political Summit of Nigeria scheduled to hold on May, 28 and May 29, 2025.

The Frontier reports that The Patriots is an eminent group of leaders of thought, statesmen and women in Nigeria working towards a new democratic Constitution for Nigeria. The group is chaired by Chief Emeka Anyaoku.

According to a statement issued today by the Joint Secretariat of The Patriots and Nigerian Political Summit Group, NPSG, initiators of the National Summit and made available to The Frontier, the historic Pan Nigerian Confab is being put together to X-ray and chart a new course for Nigeria’s Constitutional Democracy, 25 years after civil rule was re-instituted.

According to the statement, the move is a stakeholders’ response and intervention to the heightened insecurity and instability in parts of the country.

The statement signed by Head, Joint Secretariat, Olawale Okunniyi (Veteran Che), also noted that the national summit, holding under the broad theme: “Actualising A Constitutional Democracy That Works For All in Nigeria” is designed to galvanise national consensus on the most suitable and inclusive governance architecture for political cohesion and stability of Nigeria.

It is also to explore the ongoing constitution reform process of the federal government as a veritable vista for actualising the popular yearnings of Nigerians for “a new democratic people’s Constitution capable of neutralising internal disharmony and separatist insecurity, which accounts for massive unabated loss of lives and wanton destructions in the country”.

According to the Patriots – NPSG Joint Secretatiat, the unveiling of the Summit Coordinating Committee, to be conducted by its chairman, will hold tomorrow in Lagos at 10am.

The statement further listed names of the 24-member Summit Coordinating Committee.

They include: HE Otunba Gbenga Daniel (Former Governor of Ogun State) as Co Chairman, Rt Hon (Sen) Aminu Tambuwal (Former Speaker, House of Reps) – Co Chairman, HE Boni Haruna (Former Governor of Adamawa State) – Member, and HE Donald Duke (Former Governor of Cross River State) – Member.

Others members are: HE (Dr) Tokunbo Awolowo – Dosumu, (Coordinator, Awolowo Foundation), Prof Pat Utomi (Chairman, NCFront), HE Dame Pauline Tallen (Former Deputy Governor of Plateau State),

Ms Ankio Briggs (PANDEF) – Member, Prof Anthony Kila (Chair Patriots Mobilisation Committee) and Veteran Olawale Okunniyi (DG, NPSG) as ex-officio members, among others.
