•Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar

The President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) and Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has said that this year’s Ramadan fasting commences today.

He made the announcement last night in a telecast monitored in Abuja, reports Daily Trust.

“We thank Allah who has brought us to the end of the month of Sha’aban. Reports of positive sightings of the new crescent of Ramadan were reported to us by various leaders across the country.

“And we have verified and authenticated such reports and duly accepted them.

“Therefore, tomorrow (Saturday), 1st March 2025, marks first Ramadan, 1446, after Hijra.

“We call on all Muslims across this great country to commence fasting accordingly,” Sultan Abubakar said.

He also urged all Muslims to use the glorious month of Ramadan for extra prayers for the leaders in the country, and for more dedication to the worship of Allah.

The NSCIA leader prayed Allah to reward the act of worship with paradise and prayed Allah to grant ‘Ramadan Kareem’ to all Muslims in Nigeria and the world over.

Meanwhile, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Muslims in Nigeria and across the world as the holy month of Ramadan begins, asking them to pray for the country.

President Tinubu, who disclosed that this year’s Ramadan holds special significance as it coincides with a time when the policies of his administration are beginning to yield positive results, said there is a brighter future for the country.

In a special Ramadan message to Nigerians which he personally signed, the president said, “May this fasting and devotion period be marked by good health, spiritual fulfilment and divine blessings.

“Ramadan is a time for deep reflection, renewed devotion to Allah, and acts of compassion and generosity toward humanity.”

In the same vein, the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, prayed that the month of Ramadan will bring peace, joy and spiritual fulfillment to Nigerians.
