Russia launched a fresh wave of overnight strikes on Ukraine, firing 85 attack drones and a ballistic missile just hours after President Vladimir Putin met with United States President Donald Trump in Alaska.
Ukraine’s air force said Moscow targeted several frontline regions with an Iskander-M ballistic missile and Shahed-type drones last night, beginning shortly after the high-profile summit between the two leaders, reports AFP.
Kyiv reported that its air defence systems intercepted and destroyed 61 of the drones, though attacks continued across four regions.
The Trump-Putin talks, closely watched by the international community, ended without a breakthrough or ceasefire announcement, despite Western pressure on the Kremlin to halt its invasion.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has yet to respond publicly to the outcome of the meeting.
Russia’s full-scale invasion, launched by Putin in February 2022, has killed thousands and displaced millions, with no end to the fighting in sight.
