Yoruba youths cry out over pervasive kidnappings in South-West

•Amotekun

A body of Yoruba youth groups, Yoruba Youth Socio-Cultural Association (YYSA), yesterday, decried pervasive and pervading kidnappings in the South-West.

This was contained in a statement signed by Olalekan Hammed (National President) and Olawale Ajao (National Secretary) and made available to our correspondent in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The association said it was perturbed with the alarming rate of kidnapping in South-West and the entire country, reports The Guardian.

The YYSA, while stressing the need to re-equip Amotekun Corps for effective service delivery if the region truly is serious about ensuring peace, urged the South-West governors to do the needful as kidnapping terribly is becoming increasing day by day.

Meanwhile, in the face of the kidnapping epidemic and insecurity across the country, the Ogun State Government has urged citizens to be security conscious, noting that security is a collective responsibility of citizens and not solely the duty of security agencies and the government.

The state’s Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ganiyu Hamzat, who stated this during the in-house training for members of staff at the Oba’s Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, at the weekend, admonished them to be security and safety conscious by taking cognisance of their environment to enable them to live a peaceable life. that is free of fear or danger.

Hamzat, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Dr Rotimiolu Akinlesi, stressed that the importance of the training could not be over-emphasised considering the spate of insecurity in the country and its impact on workers in the effective discharge of their responsibilities.

He, however, commended the state government for the peace witnessed so far in the state.

In his lecture, the Guest Speaker/Commander, Ogun State Social Orientation and Safety (So-Safe) Corps, Soji Ganzallo, who was represented by the Assistant Commander, Moruf Yusuf, said that security and safety should be everybody’s business and citizens must play their role in securing the society.
