Stakeholders of the Accord Party, in a widely attended meeting held in Keffi yesterday, have announced the suspension of the faction led by Barr. Maxwell Mgbudem and formally recognised the leadership of Prof. Chris Imumolen, whose position is backed by a Federal High Court order.
The meeting, which drew participants from all 36 state chapters, was presided over by Ambassador Kabiru Hassan, reports Daily Independent.
Addressing journalists after the deliberations, Hassan disclosed that the stakeholders had unanimously resolved to suspend Barr. Max Mgbudem, who had been parading himself as National Chairman, along with his Deputy National Chairman, over alleged anti-party activities.
According to the stakeholders, the suspended officials were accused of “working with enemies of the party to undermine its interests.” They also alleged that the faction “collected money to endorse APGA candidate Soludo against the values of the party, knowing fully well Soludo was working with the APC. If they had endorsed the APC candidate, Nicolas Ukachukwu, it would have been even better,” they stated.
The party leaders further cautioned Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, who has been rumoured to be showing interest in the Accord platform, to be mindful of whom he associates with.
They stressed that “Max Mgbudem is not the chairman but Chris Imumolen, who is the Accord National Chairman,” urging Adeleke to “join the Accord led by Chris Imumolen to avoid risking litigation that could jeopardize his ambition.”
