Street touts: Police deploy additional operatives to Mushin area of Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has deployed additional personnel to the popular Mushin area of the state.

This action, according to the Lagos State Police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, is necessitated by concerns raised by members of the Mushin community regarding the recent incidents of daylight assaults, harassment, and stealing from shops and innocent members of the public on the streets of Mushin by teenage miscreants and hoodlums.

Hundeyin claims that the report has it that street touts ranging from the age of 14 to 16 years invaded the area, reports Channels TV.

“These reports have informed a thorough review of our operational tactics and strategies. In response, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Olohundare Jimoh, has promptly deployed more Police tactical squads, Police Mobile Force (PMF) personnel, and other Conventional Police Teams specifically to Mushin and the adjoining areas to checkmate the activities of these miscreants, arrest them, and bring them to Justice,” the spokesman said.

He added that normalcy has been completely restored to Mushin and all other affected parts, while residents are encouraged to go about their lawful businesses and other activities without fear or apprehension.

In addition, the Area Commander covering Mushin has been directed by the Commissioner of Police to meet with the two local government chairmen covering the entire area to map out strategies to further strengthen the security deployment to ensure optimum security and safety of the residents and traders in the general areas.

Meanwhile, the command has carried out raids on criminal hideouts and identified black spots in Ishaga, Awolowo, and Ojuwoye markets, where 23 of the miscreants allegedly responsible for the assaults, harassment, and stealing from shops and innocent people in Mushin area were arrested.

The suspects are currently being investigated, and they will soon be brought to court.

These operational raids will be a continuous operation till the area is completely rid of these hoodlums and miscreants.

However, The Commissioner of Police has assured residents of Mushin and the entire Lagos State that their safety and security remain a top priority, and the Police is committed to restoring peace and confidence in this area, urging them not to hesitate to reach out to the nearest police station if they see or hear anything suspicious around them.
