Super Eagles striker Awoniyi’s market value drops by €6m amid poor form

The FrontierThe FrontierDecember 19, 2024 3401 Minutes read0

•Taiwo Awoniyi

The market value of Super Eagles and Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi has declined by €6 million, according to the latest player valuations released on Monday by renowned football statistics platform, Transfermarkt.

The 27-year-old forward’s valuation has fallen from €28m to €22m within just three months, reports The PUNCH.

This marks a significant downturn from his peak value of €30m in October 2023, following a stellar performance at the close of the 2022/23 season. Awoniyi’s value had previously dropped by €2m in May this year before the recent €6m decline.

The drop is largely attributed to Awoniyi’s struggles in recent months, where he has failed to score in 11 consecutive Premier League matches for Nottingham Forest.

This dip in form has seen him lose his starting role, with Chris Wood, who has been in better form, now preferred as the team’s leading striker.

Despite this setback, Awoniyi remains determined to regain his form and contribute to Nottingham Forest’s ambitious campaign. The club is aiming for a strong finish in the Premier League, with hopes of securing qualification for European competition.

Notwithstanding the decrease in his valuation, Awoniyi is still ranked as Nottingham Forest’s ninth most valuable player and holds the position of the sixth most valuable player in the Super Eagles squad.
