Bauchi State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has expressed its support and readiness to join the one-day peaceful protest against the increase in telecoms services tariffs.

Addressing journalists at the end of an emergency meeting held at its Secretariat today, the NLC stated that the protest became necessary in order to let government and other concerned agencies know that the increase is not in the best interest of Nigerians, reports Nigerian Tribune.

The State NLC Chairman, Comrade Dauda Shuaibu said, “Gentlemen of the Press, we are here under the instructions of the National Secretariat, on the 29th of January 2025, the National Administrative Council of the NLC convened in Abuja for an Executive Council emergency meeting.”

According to him, ‘During the meeting, it was resolved to embark on a one-day national peaceful protest against the 50 per cent increase on tariff as announced by the NCC.”

He added that the meeting totally rejected the increase and resolved to use the peaceful protest to show its displeasure as well as mobilize all affiliate bodies for the protest.

The NLC chairman added that” At the State Executive Council level, we met today and resolved to snide by the directive of the National Secretariat. Tomorrow (Tuesday), we are visiting the NCC office here in Bauchi to express our grievance and submit our letter containing all that we have observed.

He stressed that “We are using this medium to solicit for massive support from the public to achieve the success of the exercise.”
