President Bola Ahmed Tinubu today returned to Abuja after spending the Eid-el-Kabir holiday in Lagos, where he combined the festive period with a series of political, governmental and diplomatic engagements.

The president arrived at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at exactly 5:17 p.m. and was received by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, and other senior government officials.

According to a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the president utilised the holiday period for a range of activities that touched on governance, politics and regional diplomacy.

During the Sallah celebrations, Tinubu received Vice President Kashim Shettima and several groups on traditional homage visits. Among the visitors were members of the leadership of the National Assembly led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

The president also hosted members of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum led by its chairman and Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

APC stakeholders from Oyo State, including the party’s governorship candidate, Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, as well as APC candidates for the House of Representatives and Lagos State House of Assembly elections, also paid him visits.

Yesterday, Tinubu attended the 70th anniversary celebration of the Nigerian Navy at the Eko Atlantic City Waterfront, where he participated in the International Fleet Review and commissioned three naval vessels — NNS Oloibiri, NNS Mambila and NNS Gurara.

The same day, the president held talks with the President of the Benin Republic, Romuald Wadagni, in a meeting aimed at strengthening bilateral relations, regional cooperation and economic partnership between the neighbouring countries.

The statement noted that before the Eid-el-Kabir holiday, Tinubu had travelled to Lagos to participate in the primaries of the ruling All Progressives Congress for various elective offices, including governorship, National Assembly and presidential positions.

At the presidential primary, the president cast his vote in Lagos and subsequently secured the party’s presidential ticket for the 2027 election, receiving what the presidency described as an overwhelming endorsement from close to 11 million party members nationwide.
