Top Nigerians react as Trump floors Biden in US presidential debate

The FrontierThe FrontierJune 28, 2024 4463 Minutes read0

•Trump and Biden

The Republican presidential candidate and former United States of America president, Donald Trump has been rated higher in the presidential debate between him and President Joe Biden.

Trump who was rated to have scored 67 percent against Biden’s 33 percent was said to be more coherent and assertive in his presentation than Biden who was said to have had a shaky performance.

Recall that registered voters who watched CNN’s presidential debate between Joe Biden and Donald Trump largely think Trump outperformed Biden, according to a CNN poll of debate watchers conducted by SSRS, with most saying they have no real confidence in Biden’s ability to lead the country.

At the same time, a majority who tuned in say it had little or no effect on their choice for president.

Debate watchers rated Trump 67% to Biden 33%, stressing that Trump turned in a better performance yesterday.

Meanwhile, distinguished Nigerians have reacted to the epoch making debate.

Mixed reactions have trailed the debate. While some believe that Biden still has an opportunity to make amends, others say it’s the end of the road for the Democrat’s candidate.

Prof. Bolaji Akinyemi, former Minister of External Affairs, even though he called himself a fan of Biden said that Biden may lose the election, unless Kamala Harris will have an opportunity to redeem the situation.

He urged the Democrats not to replace Biden even though he believes that the ruling party will most likely lose the September presidential election.

Speaking on Arise TV today, Akinyemi blamed the campaign aides of Biden for calling for the debate.

He noted that on policies, Biden delivered well but regretted that he didn’t sound convincing delivering his points, saying that Biden is a stammer and finds it difficult to put forward his points.

He said that Biden looked old and lost even though there is just a four-year age difference between the two contenders.

On the possibility of a second chance, he said, “There may be no prospect for him (Biden) making any difference, it’s unfortunate that the democrats will most likely lose the election.

Akinyemi however stated that he’s hopeful that should there be a debate between Kamala Harris, the vice president and the vice presidential candidate of the Republican, he was sure Harris would floor that person.

He noted that Harris is sharp and intelligent and would most probably do much better than the Republican candidate, and redeem the situation.

On his own part, a former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, says former US president, Donald Trump literally murdered President Joe Biden in the presidential debate held last night.

He said based on the outcome of the debate, Biden stands no chance of being re-elected in the forthcoming presidential election.

Fani-Kayode in his Facebook wrote, “Donald Trump literally murdered Joe Biden in their 90 minute encounter last night.

It was a horror show for the Democrats and it ended in the total and complete massacre and annihilation of their feeble, ailing, mumbling, weak, disconnected, stuttering, verbally incomprehensible, mentally vacant and utterly lost presidential candidate.

“I believe the greatest disservice that Biden’s handlers did to him was to allow him to participate in that debate.

“If I didn’t despise him as much as I do I would feel sorry for Joe and I assure you that he has no chance of being re-elected as president in five months’ time.

“He came across as confused, bungling, and fumbling, who had no idea about what he was saying or doing.

“He’s not only a great danger to America but he is also a great danger to the world.

“He didn’t need a debate last night and neither does he need to run for president: what he needs are prayers and a good doctor and what the Dems need is a new candidate to replace him.

“I thank God for the timely, dramatic and remarkable return of Donald J. Trump to the world stage.

“We missed him sorely and we need him now more than ever!

“He will be elected as America’s next President and he may yet save the world from WW3,” Fani-Kayode said.

Meanwhile, Afrobeats star David Adeleke, professionally known as Davido, has called the 2024 US Presidential debate the “worst” in the country’s history.

Davido, who was born in Atlanta, Georgia, responded through his X account, calling it the “worst ever.”

He wrote: “Still a democrat sha but worst presidential debate ever.”

President Biden and his predecessor Trump will face off in the November 5 election, the first rematch in over 70 years.
