TRAGEDY: Strange fire outbreak in Delta kills one, destroys shops, goods worth millions of Naira

The FrontierThe FrontierAugust 2, 2026 521 Minutes read0

A strange early-hour fire outbreak yesterday has reportedly claimed one life, destroyed commercial buildings and goods worth millions of Naira at Bomadi Overside, headquarters of Bomadi Council Area of Delta State.

The fire outbreak, which struck the commercial hub of Bomadi Overside, according to an eye witness, took the commercial environment by surprise, and residents were helpless as the entire neighbourhood was still fast asleep, reports Sunday Independent.

The source, who preferred anonymity, narrated that the devastating blaze occurred around 4 a.m. and razed five buildings, claimed one life, and destroyed goods worth millions of naira.

According to the source, the deceased victim identified as J.T. Christopher was reportedly trapped in the inferno, with his body burnt beyond recognition.

A survivor of the inferno, Mrs. Esther Thomas, said the fire started shortly after 4:00 a.m. She explained that she was awakened by frantic cries from neighbours before discovering the raging inferno.

The cause of the fire is yet to be officially confirmed as residents continue to count their losses.

Meanwhile, survivors have called on the Delta State Government and other relevant agencies to come to their aid, adding that they have not just lost their shelter but also their means of livelihood.
