Unknown gunmen have attacked an Army outpost along the Igbeti–Igboho road in Oorelope Local Government Area of Oyo State, setting fire to a block within the base and a patrol vehicle.

The attack occurred between 5:30 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. yesterday, Sunday, September 13, 2026, according to a security update from the Oorelope Local Government Command today, reports Channels TV.

The Command said it received a distress call that armed men had invaded the Operation Burst base and immediately mobilised its operatives, alongside personnel from other security agencies, to the area.

However, the attackers had fled before the security team arrived.

Preliminary inquiries indicated that the gunmen allegedly stormed the base in large numbers and opened fire on security personnel stationed there.

Security operatives subsequently combed the area and made efforts to locate the attackers, but no arrests were made.

No casualty was recorded in the incident, according to the security update.

However, the attackers allegedly set fire to a block within the base and a patrol van, destroying both properties.

The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the attack.

Speaking to our correspondent, the Command’s spokesman, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, said armed men attacked the military outpost along the Igbeti–Igboho road in the Oke-Ogun area of the state.

“It was an army outpost along Igboho/Igbeti road. No life was lost but some properties were damaged,” he said.

Investigation into the attack has commenced as security concerns persist in the area, with the incident occurring a day before the resumption of the new academic session across Oyo State.
