We no longer trust unions – Nigerians react to Organised Labour 14-day strike ultimatum

The FrontierThe FrontierFebruary 9, 2024 4271 Minutes read0

Nigerians have reacted to the National Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress’ issuance of a 14-day strike ultimatum given to the federal government saying they no longer trust the effectiveness of the Union.

This is in response to the declaration of a 14-day notice of strike to the federal government for failing to implement the 16-point agreement reached on October 2, 2023, reports Nigerian Tribune.

Recall that this action by the National Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria is an outcome of the meeting held in Abuja where the duo in a statement jointly signed by their presidents, Comrade Joe Ajaero and Comrade Festus Odidi said the non-implementation of the agreement has only caused Nigeria more pain and suffering.

Reacting to this declaration, Nigerians seem to have lost hope in these unions and have taken to social media to express their disappointments.

A Facebook user @Chimaco Onwuama reacted, “The same people with different names, organizations and representatives, we are not expecting anything positive from your warning and meeting.”

@Slyvester Confidence Baiyeri said, “The same people with different names, organizations and representatives, we are not expecting anything positive from your warning and meeting.”

@Micheal Agbabo commented, “Nobody takes you seriously again.”

“That was then, the lion no get teeth again”, @Chiemezie Njoku reacted.

@Emmy Suo Allred expressed his grievances commenting, “Inconsistent Union! They are all after stomach infrastructure not for the interest of those they represent.”

Nigerians on Twitter also expressed their unbelief in the unions’ declaration of the 14-day strike ultimatum given to the federal government.

“I don’t believe that anyone is listening to your call anymore. The NLC has cried wolf several times & therefore lost whatever advantage they might have over the government…”

— Dr. Tim Faden (@Manindemirrow2) February 8, 2024

“Has NLC and TUC waken up from their deep sleep or they still want to use the suffering Nigerians for their personal bidding?? Mmmttteeewwwuuu..”
