Woman allegedly kills sister during dispute over ₦800 pepper, tomatoes

The FrontierThe FrontierSeptember 16, 2025 4160 Minutes read0

The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a woman, Iluyemi Bosede, for allegedly killing her elder sister, Tewogboye Omowumi, during a dispute over ₦800 in Akure.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, said in a statement today that the incident occurred on September 6 at about 8:00 p.m.

He explained that the quarrel started when Bosede demanded payment from her 35-year-old sister for tomatoes and pepper, reports The Guardian.

According to the police, the argument escalated into a physical confrontation, during which Bosede allegedly grabbed her sister by the clothes, causing her to fall. Omowumi was rushed to the hospital but was confirmed dead on arrival.

Commenting on the case, the Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, described the incident as “unfortunate” and urged residents to avoid allowing disagreements to degenerate into violence.

“Disputes, no matter how small, should be resolved through dialogue and not violence. This case shows how avoidable quarrels can end in tragedy,” Lawal said.

The Commissioner assured the public that the suspect would be prosecuted and reiterated the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives across the state.
