Woman commits suicide after fiance’s family rejects marriage

The FrontierThe FrontierFebruary 24, 2026 1350 Minutes read0

A 30-year-old woman, Abigail Adebayo, has reportedly committed suicide in Ijebu area of Ogun State, following the disapproval of her marriage to her fiancé by his family.

Family sources said Abigail had been in a relationship with one Oniga Abiola since September 2025, with plans to marry.

However, her mother-in-law-to-be reportedly instructed her son to bring the woman he intended to marry to their home about two weeks ago, reports Vanguard.

On discovering that Abigail had three children from a previous relationship, Abiola’s mother reportedly opposed the marriage and later informed her eldest son, who also disapproved it.

Abigail was said to have been later found motionless in her room. She was rushed to the General Hospital in Ijebu-Ode, where doctors confirmed her dead on arrival.

Abiola, who was said to have reported the incident to the Atan Ijebu division of the Ogun State Police Command, said that Abigail had ingested herself with insecticide.

Police sources said detectives from the division who visited the scene and examined the corpse at the hospital, noted that there were no visible marks of violence on her body.

Investigations are ongoing according to the Police.
