Microblogging platform X is set to overhaul the way creators earn from content on the platform, with its existing revenue sharing programme scheduled to end in September.
The platform announced that creators currently participating in the revenue sharing scheme will receive their final earnings under the programme before transitioning to a new system designed to place greater emphasis on original content.
Under the new arrangement, X will replace the revenue sharing programme with an “Original Content Rewards Program”, which is expected to reward creators whose posts contribute meaningfully to conversations on the platform, reports Saturday Guardian.
According to the X Creators Team, the existing revenue sharing programme will officially end on September 7, 2026. Creators enrolled in the programme will continue earning until that date, while the final payout is scheduled for September 11.
“Today, we’re introducing the Original Content Rewards Program — a new way for creators to earn on X by sharing original content and contributing meaningfully to the conversation,” the company said.
The company said applications for the new programme will open on September 8, subject to creators meeting its eligibility requirements.
Creators will be able to determine whether they qualify through Creator Studio, where an Original Content Rewards section will be available.
X also said creators who have already completed identity verification and linked a valid payout method will not be required to repeat those processes.
“Once approved, you’ll continue earning under the Original Content Rewards Program and its Terms and Conditions,” it said.
The platform said the new approach reflects its intention to place more value on creators who produce distinctive material, including breaking news, expert commentary, personal experiences and creative work.
“X has always been powered by people who share something only they can: breaking news, expert insights, unique experiences, creativity, and commentary that moves culture forward.
“We want to reward the people who make X worth opening every day, so we’re evolving how creators earn here.”
The transition means creators currently relying on X’s revenue-sharing model will need to apply for the new programme from September 8 and meet the platform’s eligibility conditions to continue earning under the revised system.
