Born on February 28, 1968, Lt. General Lagbaja’s early life foreshadowed his dedication to public service, setting the stage for a career centered on protecting the nation.

Military Roots at the Nigerian Defence Academy

His journey in the armed forces began in 1987 at the Nigerian Defence Academy, where he was part of the 39th Regular Course, laying a strong foundation for a decorated military career.

Swift Rise as a Leader

Commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on September 19, 1992, in the Infantry Corps, Lagbaja swiftly rose through the ranks, known for his tactical skill and natural leadership.

Appointment as Chief of Army Staff

Recognising his military prowess, President Bola Tinubu appointed Lagbaja as Chief of Army Staff on June 19, 2023, entrusting him with the highest responsibility of leading Nigeria’s Army.

Frontline Role in National Security

Lagbaja actively contributed to critical internal security operations, including Operation ZAKI in Benue, Lafiya Dole in Borno, and Operation Forest Sanity across Kaduna and Niger States, significantly strengthening national security efforts.

Early Command in Specialised Units

Known for his strategic thinking, he served as a platoon commander in the 93 Battalion and the 72 Special Forces Battalion, demonstrating his leadership in the field.

Strategic Studies in the U.S.
