190 Nigerians repatriated from UAE day after announcing visa ban lift

The FrontierThe FrontierJuly 16, 2024 2301 Minutes read0

The federal government has repatriated 190 Nigerians from the United Arab Emirates.

In a statement signed by Zonal Director of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) North Central, Bashir Idris Garga,

the returnees were received at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja today morning by a combined team of government officials led by NEMA.

He said the returnees were profiled and documented by the relevant agencies and sensitized to behave with decorum and responsibility on their return to Nigeria.

This is coming barely 24 hours after the federal government said it had reached an agreement with the UAE on the issue of the visa ban imposed on Nigeria two years ago.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, yesterday announced the agreement while addressing State House reporters at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

“You are aware that Nigeria has been discussing with the United Arab Emirates on the issue of visa for Nigerian passport holders going to the United Arab Emirates.

“Today, an agreement has been reached on that, and effective today, July 15th, Nigerian passport holders are able to obtain visas to go to the United Arab Emirates.

“Details of that will be provided to you later today when we put out a statement. But I can tell you that the agreement has been reached and effective from today, Nigerian passport holders intending to travel to the UAE are able to do so,” he had said.

However, there has not been any official communication yet from the UAE authorities on the agreement.
