1966 coup: IPOB declares war with Ohanaeze over alleged plot to apologise to Northerners

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has advised the leadership of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo led by Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu to shirk its purported visit to Sokoto State to apologise to the Northerners on the alleged involvement of Igbo military officers that led to the 1966 coup .

Spokesman of the group, Emma Powerful who gave the advice in a statement he released to newsmen today said such a visit would amount to an insult to the zone which he claimed was not guilty of the allegations, reports Daily Sun.

His statement reads in parts: “Ohaneze has crossed the red line by attempting to go and apologize to the Fulani terrorists for what the clueless Ohaneze called forgiveness from the Caliphate for Igbo military officers involvement in the 1966 coup that led to the death of Sir Ahmadu Bello.

“By the abominable planned visit of Ohaneze Ndigbo will be on record as aggressors instead of victims.

“These men are the household enemies of Ndigbo and other indigenous people in Nigeria.

“These murderous Fulanis have not apologised for killing millions of indigenous people in Nigeria. But the vampires in Ohaneze had efontry to plan to go and apologise to the Fulani Caliphate for the military coup of 1966.

“The military coup of January 15, 1966 was carried out by young military officers from all ethnic groups in Nigeria to stop Mallam Ahmadu Bello and Abubarka Tafa Belawa from the forceful Islamization of Nigeria.

“But Major Chukwuma Nzeogwu and other young military officers including those from Northern, Western saw this with Middle Belt regions and stopped them in a bloody coup. Ndigbo never sent military officers to stage a coup for them or to murder on their behalf.

“Nevertheless, the 1966 coup that was carried out by the young military officers from all the ethnic groups in Nigeria was viciously tagged as Igbo coup. Why was the military coup led by Murtala Muhammed, Babangida, Buhari, Abacha and other Northern military officers not tagged Hausa or Fulani coup?

“This is the height of insult not only to Ndigbo but also to all the indigenous people in Nigeria who have been victims of the sponsored Fulani terrorists attacks. If Ndigbo continues to allow these traitors called Ohaneze Ndigbo to continue to parade themselves as leaders of Ndigbo, the lives and safety of Ndigbo is completely compromised.” Powerful claimed.

The statement continued: “Ohaneze Ndigbo has betrayed Ndigbo. They betrayed Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. They betrayed Peter Obi’s presidency.

“The eagle eyes of IPOB are watching them and they will not go free for having such minds. If Ohaneze Ndigbo dare travel to the Northern Nigeria and apologize to the murderous Fulani Caliphate, IPOB will declare them persona non gratas.

“If Iwuanyanwu and his factional group go to Sokoto to apologize to the Fulani murderers, they should remain there forever. We reject them as Igbos from that point forward,” the statement concluded.

Meanwhile, the Igbo apex group has reacted to the claims by IPOB. Its President General, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu addressing newsmen in Owerri today described the purported trip to Sokoto State to apologise to the Notherners as false.

Iwuanyanwu who said under no circumstances will the Igbo apologise to anybody disclosed that the claims were fake emanating from a mischief maker who he said has already apologised about the spread of the rumour.

He said, “It’s not true, it’s fake news, the man that even carried the fake news has apologised . What happened was that we had a retreat at Enugu, nobody talked about it, the only thing we did was appointing a peace and reconciliatory committee because we wanted peace for our people in Lagos and everywhere.

“First of all, Igbo didn’t carry out any coup, people who were killed were not killed by Ndigbo they were killed by soldiers, Igbo didn’t kill anybody, the coup was carried out by soldiers, it was purely a military affair, nothing to do with the Igbo, we have no reason to apologise to anybody, ” Iwuanyanwu said.
