Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have killed two suspected kidnappers, rescued two abducted victims, and recovered an AK-47 rifle, ammunition, and ransom money during a joint operation with the military.

The operation, carried out in the early hours of today, Thursday, April 9, 2026, targeted a suspected kidnapper’s hideout along the Ubulu-Uku Power Line, reports The Nation.

Police spokesman Bright Edafe revealed in a statement today that the action followed reported kidnapping incidents in Ibusa and Enu-Ani Mega City in Ogwashi-Uku.

He said the operatives, attached to the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber-Crime Squad, tracked the suspects to the location at about 12:40 am and that upon sighting the security team, the suspects opened fire, leading to a gun battle.

Edafe said during the exchange, two members of the gang were shot and later died from their injuries, while two female victims were rescued unhurt.

According to him, items recovered from the scene include an AK-47 rifle, 19 rounds of ammunition, and N4.2 million believed to be ransom collected from the victims.

Edafe said a search operation is ongoing in the surrounding bushes to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang and recover additional weapons.

The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, Yemi Oyeniyi, praised the operatives and the military for the successful operation, noting that collaboration among security agencies remains vital in tackling violent crime.

He also urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to assist law enforcement efforts.
