In a significant political development, IGP Usman Alkali Baba (Rtd) has announced his withdrawal from the All-Progressive Congress (APC) gubernatorial race for Yobe State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a heartfelt statement delivered to supporters, Baba expressed his gratitude to the citizens of Yobe State and acknowledged the guidance of prominent figures, including Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima and the governors of Yobe and Borno states.
According to him, after extensive consultations with party leaders, elders, and key stakeholders, he made the difficult decision to step back from the gubernatorial bid, citing a commitment to party unity and stability as the driving factors, reports Daily Independent.
“I urge our teaming supporters to remain calm and continue to stand behind our great party, the APC, and the eventual gubernatorial candidate,” Baba said, emphasizing his ongoing commitment to the development of Yobe State and expressing confidence in the party’s future.
As the political landscape evolves, Baba’s withdrawal marks a pivotal moment for the APC and its supporters in Yobe State.
