2027: Former federal lawmaker Marafa leads supporters to ADC in Zamfara

A fresh political realignment seems to be taking shape in Zamfara State following the decision of former senator Kabiru Garba Marafa and his supporters to adopt the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as their platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The move, which signals a potential shift in the state’s political dynamics, was reached after a closed door caucus meeting of the Marafa political movement held in Kaduna State, reports Daily Trust.

According to a statement issued by the group’s secretary, Aminu A. Jelani, the decision followed “extensive consultations and review of prevailing political realities.

“The caucus unanimously resolved to formally adopt the ADC as the political platform of the Marafa political movement,” the statement said.

It added that the resolution was ratified through a vote by members present at the meeting.

Jelani disclosed that members of the movement across Zamfara’s 14 local government areas and beyond have been directed to immediately commence registration with the party, alongside intensified grassroots mobilisation.

“Consequently, all members, supporters, coordinators, and stakeholders… are hereby directed to immediately commence registration with the ADC and intensify grassroots mobilisation efforts in all wards, local governments, and senatorial districts,” he said.

The statement also revealed that the decision followed a formal invitation by the ADC leadership to Marafa and his supporters, with former Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Dikko Abubakar, said to have played a role in facilitating engagements between both sides.

The group pledged to work with the ADC “in good faith, sincerity, and openness,” while urging the party leadership to ensure inclusiveness and cooperation.

“The Marafa Support Groups remain resolute in their commitment to the promotion of good governance, justice, accountability, and people oriented leadership,” the statement added.

The caucus also commended members for their loyalty and resilience, noting that the movement was entering “a new phase of strategic political engagement.”

The latest development comes amid early manoeuvrings by political actors across the country as attention gradually shifts to the 2027 elections.
