6 Zamfara PDP lawmakers dump party for APC

The FrontierThe FrontierDecember 26, 2025 811 Minutes read0

Six lawmakers members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The lawmakers, who were members of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), who presented their letters to the factional Speaker of the Assembly, Nasiru Gummi, and one of the decampees on the floor of the House, at it late evening sitting in Gusau, the state capital, said their defection emanated from the gross exhibition of abuse of office by the executive, under Governor Dauda Lawal and the crisis in their former political party at the national level causing uncertainty in the survival of the party in the country’s political arena.

In a statement, the state party Publicity Secretary, Malan Yusuf Idris Gusau, said the lawmakers further complained about the high handedness of the leadership of the legislature under former Speaker.

The lawmakers accused the Speaker of violating the constitution by only dancing to the directives of the governor, reports The Nation.

The decampees include Gummi, representing Gummi 1 Constituency; Amiru Ahmad Keta, member representing Tsafe West; Muktar Nasir (Jikan Shehu), Member representing Kaura North; Nasiru Abdullahi Maru, member representing Maru North, Basiru Bello (Sarkin Zango), member representing Bungudu West and Bashir Abubakar Masama Bukkuyum, member representing Bukkuyum North.
