Nine persons have been reported killed in a road crash at Kere Town in the Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The sad accident, which occurred today along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, also saw seven injured persons.

The spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in the state, Florence Okpe, confirmed the accident in a statement.

“The crash occurred at about 0800 hrs on the Lagos-Abeokuta route. A total of 17 persons were involved, seven persons were injured and unfortunately nine persons were recorded dead,” she said

According to the spokesperson, the suspected causes of the crash were over-speeding and route violation that led to a head-on collision of two vehicles.

“The injured victims were taken to General Hospital Ijaye while the corpses were deposited at Lantoro Hospital and General Hospital Ijaye Abeokuta,” she added.

FRSC Sector Commander in the state, Anthony Uga cautioned motorists on route violation and excessive speed, pointing out the dangers associated with the two offences.

He further advised motorists to adhere to traffic rules and regulations and sympathised with the family of the crash victims.
