9mobile rebrands again with new name, colour

The FrontierThe FrontierAugust 9, 2025 2251 Minutes read0

Telecom operator, 9mobile, has rebranded to T2 with its name/colour changed from its green beginning to orange.

The unveiling was made by the company at Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos during its TECH MEETS TENACITY event, reports Saturday Independent.

Speaking at the event, the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Obafemi Banigbe, disclosed that the need for the transformation is to offer the best to Nigerians.

According to him, “This change is necessary for us to give our best. We are not playing a catch-up, but to lead in the industry.”

The event which was witnessed by a huge gathering of stakeholders received applause from attendees, including the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani.

Entertainment icon, Darey Art Alade, anchored the event which showcased a combination of several music artistes.

9mobile’s journey in Nigeria has been marked by significant ups and downs. Starting as a strong competitor, it faced challenges after the exit of its initial investors, leading to infrastructure issues, revenue decline, and a shrinking subscriber base.

However, a recent national roaming agreement with MTN Nigeria aims to revitalize the company by expanding coverage and improving service quality.

HERE’S A CLOSER DETAIL OF 9MOBILE’S JOURNEY:

9mobile, formerly known as Etisalat Nigeria, was a major player in the Nigerian telecommunications market.

It reached a peak of 22 million subscribers around 2014-2016.

The departure of initial investors led to financial difficulties and a decline in infrastructure investment.

This resulted in declining revenue, a shrinking subscriber base (from 22 million to 3.2 million as of January 2025,

9mobile, formerly known as Etisalat Nigeria, is a Nigerian telecommunications company operating under the name Emerging Markets Telecommunication Services Ltd. (EMTS). It provides mobile and internet services, including voice, data, and enterprise solutions, to both personal and business customers. 9mobile is known for its focus on innovation and customer-centricity, particularly among the youth demographic.

EMTS acquired a Unified Access Service License from the Nigerian Communications Commission in 2007. The company initially launched as Etisalat Nigeria before rebranding to 9mobile in July 2017, reflecting its Nigerian identity and commitment to its customers.
