Reps revisit Oronsaye Report to streamline government agencies

The FrontierThe FrontierJuly 3, 2024 3111 Minutes read0

•House of Representatives

The House of Representatives Special Ad Hoc Committee on Restructuring of Government Agencies and Commissions appears to be revisiting and possibly expanding upon the recommendations from the Steven Oronsaye’s report of 2012.

This was notable for its recommendations on rationalising and streamlining government agencies and commissions to reduce duplication and improve efficiency.

The committee has assured that its mandate does not extend to staff rationalisation and therefore will not propose any staff retrenchment measures, as speculated.

Chairman of the Committee, Ibrahim Ayokunle Ishiaka, along with other panel members, addressed the media yesterday, emphasising the significance of the 2012 Oronsaye report.

The report outlined recommendations to streamline government agencies, aiming to boost efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

Ishiaka announced that the panel would review approximately 110 organisations as part of this initiative.

“It is crucial for us to review the recommendations from the Oronsaye report and other relevant white papers. This ensures that our government structures are aligned with current realities, best practices, and the evolving needs of our society.

“As the world evolves rapidly, it’s imperative that our government agencies and commissions are structured to effectively fulfill their mandates.

“Through this review process, our objective is to identify redundancies, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement within Federal Government agencies and commissions. We aim to streamline operations, eliminate duplication, enhance service delivery, and optimise resource allocation through legislative measures. This comprehensive review will consider diverse perspectives and expertise to ensure thorough evaluation and effective reform.”
