Kidnappers demand N3 million ransom, bank account statement to release abducted varsity student

The FrontierThe FrontierAugust 27, 2024 2701 Minutes read0

Suspected kidnappers are demanding a ransom for the release of Christiana Idowu, a 300-level student at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, who was abducted on August 19 along the Ikorodu-Yaba Road.

Christiana was on her way from her home in Itaoluwo, Ikorodu, to the University of Lagos, Yaba, where she was undergoing industrial training when she was kidnapped, reports The PUNCH.

A family source, who preferred not to be mentioned, revealed yesterday that the abductors initially demanded N3 million for Christiana’s release.

It was gathered that the family, after several unsuccessful attempts to contact Christiana, was finally reached by the kidnappers using her phone.

Following desperate pleas from the family, the ransom was reduced from N3 million to N1 million, then to N500,000, and finally to N350,000.

It was learnt that despite the family complying with the ransom payment, the kidnappers refused to release Christiana, further demanding that the family provide a bank statement of the account from which the transfer was made.

The family has reported the case to the police and is seeking assistance from the government and the public.

Ogun State deputy police public relations officer, Folashade Oluwole, when contacted, stated that she had not yet been informed of the incident but promised to investigate and provide updates.
