Hardship: Your reforms not working – Gov Bala Mohammed tells Tinubu

The FrontierThe FrontierOctober 17, 2024 2301 Minutes read0

•Mohammed and Tinubu

Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed, has told the Tinubu-led federal government to review its fiscal and monetary policies as they are not yielding results in the areas of poverty alleviation and unemployment.

Mohammed, speaking at the World Bank Nigeria development update themed, ‘Staying the course: Progress amid pressing challenges’ held in Abuja today, said the policies are harming citizens growth.

The event had in attendance the Senior Vice President of the World Bank, Indamit Gill; Country Director for the World Bank in Nigeria, Diame Diop; Minister or Finance and Coordinating Minister of Economy, Wale Edun; CBN governor Yemi Cardoso, among others.

“With all humility, please review your policies, they’re not working. Even the growing FAAC allocation is not enough because inflation is eating it up and the purchasing power of the people is dwindling, we are all living with these people and I can tell you we are at risk of being lynched because of your policies ” the governor said.

While addressing the issue of payment of minimum wage, Mohammed said Bauchi still pays the former wage of N33,000 but had set up a committee to look into how the state can begin the new wage review.

He stated that though revenue to the states has increased, there are lots of deficits in terms of power and infrastructure.

He added that he has blocked leakages since assumption of office which has now made the state earn more revenues to solve domestic problems.
