The FrontierThe FrontierNovember 15, 2024 2522 Minutes read0

•Dame Olabisi Adu

The deputy governorship candidate of Labour Party in the Ondo State governorship elections holding tomorrow, Dame Olabisi Adu-Okunniyi, has tasked the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to be vigilant and up and doing to curb the possible reoccurrence of manipulations of election results especially on IREV elections portal of INEC observed in the last Edo gubernatorial elections.

In a statement issued by her media office today and made available to The Frontier, Olabisi Adu said the Labour Party and Obi-dients are worried about the disorder observed in the results of the Edo governorship elections, which showed that politicians have continued to perfect and consolidate the electoral malpractices and the mishap of election results on INEC portal called glitches which occurred in the 2023 presidential elections to the detriment of credible elections and governance in the country.

She also stated that the Ondo youths and all Obi-dients have been mobilised and placed on alert to collaborate with civil society activists to resist any form of electoral malpractices, especially vote buying at the polling units, warning further that all election results must be uploaded to the INEC (IREV) portal in real time from the polling units, according to the electoral act of Nigeria, to avoid usual electoral disputes of elections in Nigeria.

The political Amazon also extended her hands of fellowship to other like-minded political parties in the state to align with the Labour Party to return governance back to the masses and the good people of the Ondo State, asserting further that the Labour Party is open to any ideological electoral alliance in the elections that will deliver the state from the clutches of the predators of the common people.

It will be recalled that the Appeal Court in Abuja on Tuesday set aside a previous ruling of the Federal High Court and ordered INEC to reaffirm and relist Dame Olabisi Olubunkola Adu and Dr Ayo Olorunfemi as deputy governorship and governorship candidates of the Labour Party for tomorrow elections in a historic judgement read by Justice A I Banjoko of a three-man panel, which included Justice A B Mohammed.

The Ijare – Akure trained science technologist and daughter of Late Chief Muyide Adu, a progressive political leader in Ondo State and former chairman of the state-owned Owena Motel, said it is time for all well-meaning people of Ondo State to troop out en-mass to stop manipulators and riggers of their mandate, so that leaders who will be accountable to them can take charge of state governance for the inclusive prosperity of the masses of the people.

She noted that the people are really tired of the heightening poverty and hardship in country.

She reiterated that, “The Labour Party government in Ondo State shall be inclusive, transparent, accountable and consultative, as every policy decision of our government shall embrace a bottom-top approach for the people of Ondo to truly own their government, while elected government officials become true servant-leaders to marshall the inclusive prosperity of the people of Ondo State”.
