Varsity workers go spiritual on Sallah Day over renegotiation with FG

The FrontierThe FrontierMay 27, 2026 832 Minutes read0

As the Muslim community all over there world celebrate the Eid-el-Adha, President of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, Comrade Mohammed Ibrahim, has delivered a spiritually charged appeal to members, urging prayer, patience and moral perseverance as the union awaits the outcome of critical talks with the federal government.

Comrade Ibrahim, who described the festival as a sacred season of sacrifice and renewed faith, reminded members that Eid‑el‑Adha teaches obedience, humility and the willingness to place collective good above personal comfort, reports Vanguard.

“This is a time to renew our commitment to service and to one another,” he said, calling on the union to draw strength from spiritual discipline and communal solidarity.

Acknowledging the gravity of the ongoing renegotiation process, the SSANU president advised calm and steadfastness, urging members to trust the union’s leadership while maintaining faith that divine guidance will steer the outcome.

He described prayer not as passive hope but as active engagement with destiny — a source of courage and clarity during uncertain negotiations.

Comrade Ibrahim asked members to use the sacred days to supplicate for a swift and just conclusion to talks, for the prompt signing and implementation of an agreement that will deliver relief and dignity to university workers, and for the restoration of hope to the Nigerian university system.

He emphasised that collective prayer and righteous conduct strengthen the union’s moral standing and help secure lasting, equitable results.

Drawing the labour movement into his appeal, the SSANU president invoked the values of justice and compassion central to faith traditions, asking comrades to join in seeking wisdom for those negotiating on behalf of workers.

He said: “At this crucial period in the life of our union, especially as the renegotiation process with the federal government continues, I call on all members to remain calm, united, and prayerful.

“Let us continue to trust the leadership of the Union at all levels as we work collectively and responsibly towards the protection of the rights, welfare, and dignity of our members.

“I also urge us to use this blessed period to pray for a speedy and successful conclusion of the ongoing renegotiations, and for the prompt signing and implementation of an agreement that will bring lasting relief, justice, and renewed hope to university workers and the Nigerian university system.

“May Almighty Allah accept our sacrifices, bless our homes, and grant our leaders wisdom,” he prayed, “so our union may witness victory, peace and progress.”
