Sokoto governor spends ₦1.3 billion for Ramadan feeding

The FrontierThe FrontierMarch 4, 2025 5501 Minutes read0

•Sokoto State governor, Ahmed Aliyu

Sokoto State governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has disbursed ₦1.355 billion to support Ramadan feeding centres across Sokoto State.

Aliyu said the fund was meant to ensure food assistance reached the less privileged during the holy month, reports The PUNCH.

The funds, according to the governor will be distributed across 244 wards in 23 local government areas and 27 feeding centres for physically challenged persons.

Speaking at the Government House Sokoto, today, Aliyu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the needy and vulnerable.

He recalled that the Ramadan feeding programme, originally introduced by former Governor, Aliyu Wamakko, had been abandoned by the previous administration but has now been revived and expanded.

“You may recall that last week, we inaugurated the state Ramadan feeding committee and flagged off the distribution of food items to 150 feeding centres across the metropolis.

“Today, we are extending this gesture to all 244 political wards and the physically challenged persons in the state,” the governor stated.

As part of the initiative, each of the 244 political wards will receive ₦5 million while 27 feeding centres for persons with disabilities will also be allocated ₦5 million each to provide food and essential items for breaking fast.

Aliyu urged those entrusted with the funds to handle them responsibly.

“You must put the fear of Allah first in whatever you do and remember that one day, we will all account for our deeds before our Creator,” he warned.

He also called on beneficiaries to remain orderly and cooperative during food distribution to ensure a smooth and stress-free process.

Reaffirming his administration’s dedication to social welfare, Aliyu assured Sokoto residents that his government would continue introducing programs that uplift the weak, needy, and vulnerable, while also executing meaningful development projects.

He commended the people of Sokoto for their unwavering support and prayers, wishing everyone a blessed and rewarding Ramadan.
